'Tired Hunter'
Sold
The Tired Hunter, a dark brown patinated study of a saddled hunting horse at rest. Set over a naturalistic base. Signed J Willis Good to base.
John Willis Good is recognised as probably the most talented English animalier sculptor of his time. He produced, in his short life, works which were comparable to the masters of the French Animalier school. His focus was mainly on studies of hunting scenes, dogs and racehorses in bronze and terracotta. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1870 to 1878 with the firm of Elkington & Co. casting many of his models.
