'Etoile de Mer'

A late 19th century Art Nouveau bronze sculpture by Èdouard Drouot (1859-1945). A partially nude woman holding a star fish in her outstretched arm, riding the crest of a wave with gulls dipping beneath. Signed 'Drouot' to back of bronze with title plaque to front ' Etoile de Mer par E Drouot (salon des Beaux-Arts)'.

Edouard Drouot was a French sculptor born in Sommervoire in the Haut Marne region in 1859. Drouot was a successful painter and sculptor, exhibiting at the French Salon from 1889 into the twentieth century. Drouot mostly worked in bronze producing sculpture from North African inspiration, Native American and allegorical figures as well as animalier works. Drouot died in Paris in 1945.
