A pair of Egyptian style armchairs. Solid walnut with original gilding. The back is decorated with a winged sun disc, a rectangular panel below depicting a dual image of the seated princess Sitamun receiving a golden collar from the southern countries, with several columns of hieroglyphic text above armrests. Carved figures to front of legs.
Literature:
This pair of chairs are copying the original chair of princess Sitamun, first born daughter of Amenophis III and Tiye. Discovered in 1905 in the tomb of Yuya and Thuyu, the parents of Queen Tiyi. Dating back to 18th dynasty, circa 1430 BC, the original chair now resides in the Egypt museum in Cairo and is one of the earliest examples to have been discovered.
