Man and Woman, an impressive pair of Art Deco bronze figures by Allan Clark (1896-1950). Dark green patination with stylised features. Set over black marble plinths and stamped Allan Clark 1927, Gorham Co. Foundry to bronze.
Born in Missoula, Montana, Allan Clark was a sculptor whose work reflected his world-wide travels. From 1924 to 1927, he travelled extensively in China, Korea and Japan. He was a student at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York. He began work as a sculptor in 1917 in New York City working in stone and terra cotta while teaching at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design.
Clark was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the National Sculpture Society. His works are held at the Whitney Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
