Large 19th Century Bronze Miner

A large, 3ft tall bronze figure of miner standing bare chested on an integral naturalistic base holding a pickaxe and a miner's lamp. Inscribed 'Mineur par Levy Salon des Beaux Arts', signed 'CH LEVY' and with the inscription: 'Bronze Garanti Au Titre L.V Deposee'.
Charles Octave Levy was a pupil of Armand Toussaint (1806-1862). He exhibited at the French Salon from 1873 to 1898 and won the third-class prize in 1889.
